15 year old refugee has
written a message to the world
This 15-year-old Nigerian refugee has written a message to the world: “My name is John. I come from Baga, in Nigeria.
Because of Boko Haram, I went to Baga Sola, in Dar es Salam (a refugee site in Chad). I saw people running because of them.
Here, I want to finish school. If I finish my school, I want to go to Ndjamena, (the Chadian capital).
In Ndjamena, I want to study. I want to become a teacher. In Dar es Salam, they help us. They give us food.
So that is my life.
John.”
At the beginning of January, armed fighters attacked the city of Bagakawa, Nigeria. Hundreds of people died, but John managed to escape. The teenager got on board an overloaded canoe and with the help of other survivors, crossed the fourth largest lake in Africa. He's now safe in Chad.
